Pastor's Corner
Fr. Richard G. Smith joined St. Joachim-St. John the Evangelist parish in September, 2011 as pastor. Originally from the Bronx, he grew up in Dutchess County attending St. Columba School in Hopewell Jct., Our Lady of Lourdes High School, and, briefly, Vassar College. He graduated from St. John’s University in Queens with a degree in philosophy and theology and was ordained at St. Patrick’s Cathedral on May 17th 1997 by Cardinal O’Connor after attending St. Joseph’s Seminary in Dunwoodie, Yonkers.

Fr. Richard was previously assigned to St. Peter’s parish in Haverstraw, St. Margaret of Antioch in Pearl River, Annunciation in Crestwood and St. Benedict’s in the Bronx. For the past year he has been working full-time working on a degree in theology at Fordham University in the Bronx.

Fr. Richard’s father, Richard, who passed away in 1996, worked at Downstate for many years. His mother, Mary, sister, Erin, brother, Liam and nephews, James and Ryan all live nearby.

Rev. Fabian Eghiabumhe
Parochial Vicar

Rev. Fabian Eghiabumhe; a priest of the Catholic Diocese of Auchi, Nigeria was ordained on December 18, 2004.

As part of his priestly formation, he studied philosophy and theology in the Seminary of Ss. Peter and Paul, Bodija Ibadan, Nigeria.

Upon his ordination he served as an assistant Priest in St. Theresa's Parish, Fugar and subsequently, Diocesan secretary and Bishop's secretary to Most Rev. Gabriel G. Dunia of the Catholic Diocese of Auchi.

Currently, he is on mission to the Archdiocese of New York with a position as a Parochial Vicar in the Parish of St. Joachim - St. John the Evangelist, Beacon New York.

Rev. Irenaeus Ikhane
Parochial Vicar


Rev. Fr. Irenaeus Otsemuno Ikhane was born in Auchi, Edo State, Nigeria. He attended Momoh Elementary School and Afashio High School, Auchi.

In October 1992, he was admitted into Saints Peter and Paul Spiritual Year Seminary [now St. John of the Cross Spiritual Year Seminary], Ekpoma, Edo State. In October 1993, he proceeded to Saints Peter and Paul Major Seminary, Bodija, Ibadan, Oyo State.

After completing his Seminary studies in June 2001, he was ordained a Priest on October 20, 2001 by Most Rev. Patrick Ekpu, Archbishop of Benin City at St. Paul’s Catholic Church’ Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria.

Since his ordination, Fr. Irenaeus has worked in five Parishes. He has also been Chaplain to the Catholic Youth Organization of Nigeria in the Archdiocese of Benin City and the Diocese of Auchi.


Deacon Martin Mayeski

Deacon Marty was born in Lake Ariel, Pa. and raised on his Grandmother’s Farm. After High School, he attended the University of Scranton. He enlisted in the Navy during the Vietnam conflict, serving as a Hospital Corpsman in the Portsmouth Naval Hospital. Following his discharge from active duty in 1966, he began a career in Retail Management, starting with Woolworth’s where he met his wife Berenice. They married in 1970 and were immediately transferred to New York. They settled in Beacon in 1975. He established a second career in the insurance industry with Mutual of Omaha and currently Aflac. They have a lovely daughter, Marisa, who resides in Hopewell Junction with her husband and their three children. Deacon Marty was ordained by Bishop Timothy Dolan in June of 2009. He and Berenice live in Beacon and is currently assigned to St. Joachim-St. John the Evangelist Parish.
